Guess Who’s Back

My technology meltdown is over. Thank you for all the comments! My best friend actually sent me my favorite picture in the whole world and I laughed for almost two hours because I haven’t seen it in so long. I would post the link but it is not the most appropriate humor to share. It has to do with a dog that does a face every time it’s owner comes home, have you seen it?

Time break-down of my computer accident:

6:26p: While in the middle of writing my Wednesday post, I got up to get water. Hoped to finish by 7:00p, but ended up putting down my cup by the laptop and got distracted by something in the other room.

6:45p: Came back and accidentally knocked the cup over and spilled water all over my keyboard. It took me a minute to realize, “Gee, I should probably do something about this'”. I grabbed paper towels to soak up as much as I could and took out the battery and other things to make sure they weren’t wet. At first everything seemed fine but when I started typing, everything was in caps lock and every time I scrolled it highlighted the whole page. I think the water made my Shift key lock.

6:54p: This is when I started getting panicky. I tried to restart and it wouldn’t log me back into my account. My roommate works at Apple so I ran to her room, only to find her not at home.

7:04p: I drive to the Apple Store and strap my computer into the passenger seat. My laptop wouldn’t load anything and was stuck on the loading page with the Mac icon. That stupid icon was taunting me the whole ride there.

7:20p: I got to the Apple Store and ran in like a lunatic with my sad Macbook opened and went straight to the Genius bar. They surrounded my laptop and someone yelled, “Quick, get this laptop to a room! We need 20 CCs of power and a hard reset, stat!”.

No, that’s not what happened at all. Instead, I had to wait an hour and a half but I didn’t care. All I wanted was to make sure they were able to save all my information, because I have my whole life’s worth of pictures and documents that I really didn’t want to lose.

I’m sure most of the girls here have watched Sex And The City. That episode when Carrie’s computer died was exactly what happened to me.

The only difference was that the dreamy Mr. Shaw was not there to assist me.

I ended up having to buy a new Macbook Pro and they were able to transfer all my files to the new computer. I just picked it up a few hours ago and have to mention how smooth the new keyboard is under my fingertips. The good news is I actually was planning to buy the new one that is coming out next month and the manager said he would extend the exchange policy for me. I had already been thinking about upgrading, so maybe this is a sign? I had to get a replacement quickly to be able to get work done, but I had my sights on a new desktop pc since all this talk of the new ray tracing GPUs has been around. Looking at factschronicle, I could at least get a few of the options off the table, but I’m not dead set on which one to get yet. I think I still need to think it over a bit more, maybe while I buy the other parts I know I’ll need. I’ll keep you guys posted that’s for sure.

I didn’t mean to make this so long but I felt like I have to tell you about my disaster of a day.

Actually, the whole day was not a disaster. I spent the majority of it hanging out with my pallie, Jacque.

After class, I went to her house for a few hours to help her with a project she’s working on. I can’t wait to share when she gets it all together, I think you guys will like it.

We got hungry and decided that burgers would be the best decision for lunch. The hardest decision I had to make all week was whether Roam or Umami Burger would be our winner.

Roam won because it was about three blocks closer to her house. It’s actually a pretty cute eco-friendly restaurant, with their motto claiming “pasture to plate” and everything being sustainable with premium meats.

We shared the Fryfecta, which came with sweet potato fries, french fries and the zucchini and onion haystack. They were so addicting with the chipotle habanero hot sauce.

Jacque and I both ordered the French and Fries, which was dressed with truffle parmesan fries, gruyere, avocado, onions and watercress. The only difference between our burgers was that she had a veggie patty with lettuce wrap and I had the traditional with beef patty and sesame bun.

I might be a little biased because I love truffle on everything, but now I have high expectations for Umami whenever I get around to trying it. Stay tuned for the verdict.

Also, can we take a minute to talk about her tea collection? I didn’t know about this gem until I read a note that her friend wrote for her when he stayed over. Holy shit there is a lot of tea. The cabinet comes up mid waist and the first shelf is filled from back to front full of Matcha teas. If anyone has any questions about tea then she is the person to ask. Seriously.

I’ll leave this post with an example of how excited I get at dinner time.

Tip #1 on how to make me a happy girl: feed me well.

Don’t mind the scrubs. 🙂

Sorry for this post being all over the place. My technology woes made me forget how to blog. I’ll be back to normal on Monday.

Have a great weekend!

  1. YAY!!! So so glad you are back! So sorry bout your water-attacked laptop! Glad everything has been sorted out!
I could get insanely addicted to that “Fryfecta” – yum!
Hmm – I might just become a tree drinker if I had a collection like Jacq’s!
Hope your weekend is extra happy, Tara!

  2. Wow I’ve spilled water on my laptop once a nearly lost my mind, but I googled what to do (yep I actually did this) and learned that if you flip it upside down it should be able to save it, depending on how much water got into it. Thankfully it worked and I think I learned my lesson.

Upside of this is that you get a new laptop 🙂

  3. Ahh I’m sorry about your laptop, but glad you were able to get a new one. I have probably seen that SATC episode 5 times and every time I think..hmmm I should probably back up my laptop but I never do. Why? I don’t know. Laziness maybe. Stupidity probably. That burger looks deeeeelish and holy crap that’s a lot of tea.

  4. Dude. Before you mentioned that episode, I immediately thought about it. I can’t imagine that happening! Though, my Mac completely 100% crashed my senior year of college and i lost everything. Obviously all is well now, but damn that was rough. You’re a trooper. Yay for a new computer next month too!! Happy Friday!

  5. I would’ve reacted in the same way! Glad it all worked out in the end – so nice of the manager to extend the exchange policy for you!

    And those fries – YUM!

  6. That sucks you had to buy a new one! At least you were already planning to buy one in the near future. I SO want to buy one soon! Probably won’t happen till the new year though.

Your food looks delicious, as always.

Seriously, holy hell on all that tea!

  7. I told you everything was gonna be alright! It all shakes down in a perplexingly perfect kinda way, no? Sure is a good thing I’m so dang wise.

Ps:: It’s funny thing – I was about to slip in a reference to Carrie’s Motherboard Melt-down moment that episode of SATC.. great minds.
Pps:: Boy oh boy have things changed, her computer with it’s blue screen of death is laughably tragic compared to our dazzling laptops these days.

  8. Yay! Welcome back! 🙂 We missed you. Love the SATC reference. I think all bloggers feel they are Carrie Bradshaw! I can’t believe you had to buy a new laptop! I’m secretly glad this happened to you because this post was really funny and I really enjoyed. Of course like 95% of me is really sad this happened to you, it’s just that 5%! Also, I figured out the wordpress thing you were telling me about! Thanks!

  9. Glad you’re back to blogging! I’m sure the Apple people tried “really” hard to fix your keyboard instead of pushing a new MacPro on you. 😉 But it’s always a nice excuse to get a new toy. I’ve been to Roam before and it’s a nice, cheaper alternative to Umami, less of the crowds, probably. And your friend probably needs to clear out some of her tea collection. (Tea leaves really only last about 2 years.)

  10. So good to hear it all got sorted- I wish I had a room mate who worked at apple- I find even the most basic things on my mac so hard to do- maybe I was destined to be PC guy.

Just bought some truffle oil- literally a thimble size for the price of a house but so worth it. The zucchini fried thing in the basket looks awesome!

  11. I know that must’ve been a really sucky day, but your little blog-breakdown post made me get the biggest smile on my face. Ah the joys of broken computers. (Sarcasm intended.) I’m glad you got it all sorted though, I don’t know what I would do without my daily dose of extreme food envy and gorgeous pictures. While all of that food looks marvelous, those fries look amazing! I guess I’m a fry girl at heart. I hope you have a wonderful weekend lovely full of no technical (or not technical for that matter) problems!

  12. Ugh! Having your computer break is such a bad feeling. I remember my best friend did the same thing as you one night, only with wine. We had the same sort of freak out trying desperately to soak it up, and she wound up buying a new Mac too. I’m happy for you that your files were all recovered though!

  13. That is the saddest story ever! So sorry to hear about the meltdown but happy you’re back in action. Roam burgers really can fix just about anything… Along with a new MacBook I suppose!
